Common questions from TRICARE families

Do I need a referral to see a Help Therapy provider?

For most TRICARE plans, outpatient mental health visits with a network provider do not require a referral. Active duty service members generally need a referral and pre-authorization before seeing a civilian provider. Not sure? Our team can help you check before your first appointment.

Which services are available with TRICARE?

Counseling for individuals, couples, families, children, and teens; psychiatry and medication management; and psychological evaluations, including pre-surgical screenings. Availability varies by provider and location.

Can my spouse and children get care too?

Yes. TRICARE-eligible family members can be matched with providers who work with military spouses, children, and teens.

Are telehealth appointments available?

Yes. Many Help Therapy providers offer secure video sessions, and in-person appointments are available in select areas.

I’m a veteran. Does this page apply to me?

Veterans referred through VA Community Care are welcome too. Visit our Veteran & Military Referrals page for the VA process.
