About Spinal Cord Stimulator EvaluationsSCS is a relatively new pain management strategy for patients with chronic pain and is increasingly being used as an alternative to medication or back surgery. However, is it not without risks, as the implanted SCS device is attached to the patient's nerve system. Research suggests that psychological factors such as anxiety, depression and/or poor coping skills can lead to poor care outcomes following SCS. This is where your help is needed, to help ensure the safety of the patient. Patients considering SCS are required to first go through psychological evaluations to determine if the procedure is right for them. Through this important effort, the likelihood of a positive care outcome is increased. A psychological evaluation for SCS includes a clinical interview and mental status exam, all done virtually. The process typically takes no more than an hour.

What is outpatient therapy?Outpatient mental health care is any health care service provided to a patient who is not admitted to a facility. Outpatient mental health care may be provided in a doctor’s office, clinic, the patient’s home or hospital outpatient department. Outpatient health treatment in a doctor’s office or clinic, often supplemented by medications administered at home, remains the norm for most routine care. Thanks to advances in treatments and technology, many tests and surgical procedures formerly conducted in the hospital can be done in an office setting. Outpatient mental health care also provides the norm for most mental health and chemical dependency treatment.
