Evaluation options for different ages and referral needs

What is the difference between psychological testing and an evaluation?
Testing refers to specific standardized measures. A psychological evaluation is the broader clinical process of defining the referral question, interviewing, reviewing relevant information, selecting and interpreting measures, and developing findings or recommendations.
Do I need a referral?
You may contact Help Therapy directly, but some evaluations and insurance plans require an order, referral, or prior authorization. If another professional requested the evaluation, provide that professional’s requirements.
Can an evaluation be completed by telehealth?
Some portions may be available by telehealth. The referral question, specific instruments, patient needs, state rules, and payer requirements determine whether remote evaluation is appropriate.
How long does an evaluation take?
It depends on the referral question, testing required, records, and whether additional information is needed. The team can explain the expected process after reviewing the request.
Will I receive a diagnosis?
A diagnosis may be part of the findings when clinically supported, but it is not guaranteed. The psychologist determines conclusions based on the information obtained.
Can the report be sent to my doctor?
Reports may be shared with an authorized recipient when appropriate permissions and delivery instructions are in place. Ask the team what authorization is needed.
