Mental health services from where you are

Online therapy and counseling

Individual, couples, and family sessions with participating clinicians.

Psychiatric assessment and medication management

Initial evaluation and follow-up visits with psychiatric providers.

Selected psychological services

Certain interviews, feedback sessions, or evaluation components when clinically appropriate.

Not every test, evaluation, or clinical need is appropriate for telehealth. The clinician determines the appropriate format.

How telehealth works

1

Request care.

Share the service, your location at the time of appointments, insurance, and preferences.

2

Confirm fit and coverage.

The team helps identify participating providers and reviews practical or plan requirements.

3

Prepare for the appointment.

Complete forms, test the approved platform, and choose a private space.

4

Join the secure visit.

Follow the provider’s link and instructions. The provider will verify identity and physical location as required.

Is telehealth a fit?

Telehealth may work well when…

Travel or mobility is a barrier; local options are limited; schedules are busy; care from home is preferred; or ongoing care continues while you are located in a state where the provider is authorized.

Another format may be needed when…

There is an emergency; a service requires in-person testing or observation; technology or privacy is limited; or the clinician determines that in-person care or a higher level of support is needed.

Please tell us where you will be physically located during each appointment. Provider authorization and service availability depend on that location—not only your permanent address.

Prepare for a successful visit

A private space

A quiet room and headphones help protect your privacy.

Connection and device

A reliable internet connection and a charged phone, tablet, or computer.

Relevant records

A medication list or referral records if relevant to your visit.

Backup contact

A backup phone number and any emergency contact information the provider requests.

If video is not possible, ask whether another permitted option is available for your service and plan.

Privacy, insurance, and emergencies

Privacy

Providers use approved systems and follow applicable privacy requirements. Choose a private space and avoid public Wi-Fi when possible.

Insurance

Help Therapy accepts over 50 insurance plans, but telehealth coverage depends on the plan, provider, service, and patient location.

Telehealth is not emergency care

If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. In the United States, call or text 988 for suicide or mental health crisis support.

Telehealth questions

Is telehealth the same as online therapy?

Online therapy is one type of telehealth. Telehealth can also include psychiatric care and portions of some evaluation services.

Can I attend from another state while traveling?

Tell the provider before the appointment. Care depends on where you are physically located and whether the provider may practice there.

Can I use my phone?

Often, although a larger screen may work better for forms or visual material. Follow the provider’s technology instructions.

Does insurance cover video visits?

Many plans cover eligible telehealth services, but benefits and cost sharing vary. Coverage must be checked for the specific provider and service.

Can children use telehealth?

It may be appropriate depending on age, needs, parent or guardian participation, provider experience, privacy, and clinical judgment.

What if the connection fails?

Keep your phone nearby and follow the provider’s backup plan. Do not continue sensitive discussion through an unapproved channel.

Explore care without the commute.

Tell us the service you need and the state where you will attend appointments.

Help Therapy is not an emergency service, and website forms are not monitored for emergencies. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911. In the United States, call or text 988 for suicide or mental health crisis support.
