  • In-Home Therapy | Help Therapy

In-Home Therapists HELP Provider Partners offer home-based therapy which takes place in the client’s home (or community or office) rather than in the therapist’s office. Many home-based therapy programs are provided by community mental health organizations and child protective agencies. Help Provider Partners, who are private practice therapists, offer in-home sessions when this is the most beneficial form of treatment, whether access is of concern or not. Why In-Home Therapists Offer Home-Based Therapy What to Expect from Home-Based Therapy An in-home therapist may be accompanied by another therapist who serves as a partner during the process. This provides both the client and the therapist with added support and additional resources as needed. However, not all in-home therapists work in a team. If you think home-based therapy is right for you, contact Help Therapy to determine how to proceed by calling 858-481-8827 or emailing us at info@helptherapy.com . Home-based therapy can also be used occasionally, as a supplement to office sessions. If you would like to self-refer or have a referral to make you can also get started by filling out our HIPAA Compliant Referral Form linked below. Make An Appointment Comfortable Environment to Benefit Care In addition, when therapy is offered in the home, the relationship between an in-home therapist and client is likely to develop more rapidly, because clients are more relaxed at home than in an office setting. As a result, progress and healing can occur more quickly. Mobility or Transportation Limits In-home therapists recognize that it can be challenging to get to an office for a therapy appointment due to illness, disability, personal crisis, or for lack of finances, transportation, or childcare. Options for Families Sometimes office-based therapists offer in-home therapy services when specific skills, like parenting, can be demonstrated and practiced in the home. This allows the in-home therapist to observe parenting in action, providing insight into family relationships. For example, home-based therapy can be particularly beneficial in therapy for children showing disruptive behavior patterns and for children with high-needs or developmental delays.

  • Pre-Surgical Psych Evaluations | Help Therapy

Pre-Surgical Evaluations Help Therapy has a well-developed team of neuropsychologists and psychologists who offer a wide range of psychological evaluations for patients undergoing surgical procedures. Common procedures requiring pre-surgical evaluations: Spinal Cord Stimulator Implantations (SCS) Intrathecal Pump Procedures Bariatric Surgery Spine Surgery Organ Transplants and Donors Cosmetic Surgery The reasons patients are required to do pre-surgical psychological evaluations is to determine if the procedure is right for them. Through this important effort, the likelihood of a positive care outcome is increased. A psychological evaluation includes a clinical interview and mental status exam. Help Therapy provider partners do evaluations in-person or by telehealth visits. Patients are matched to a Help Therapy practitioner according to their needs and preferences. The process typically takes one hour. Reports can be available to referring providers as quickly as 48 hours after your appointment. About Spinal Cord Stimulator Evaluations SCS is a relatively new pain management strategy for patients with chronic pain and is increasingly being used as an alternative to medication or back surgery. However, is it not without risks, as the implanted SCS device is attached to the patient's nerve system. Research suggests that psychological factors such as anxiety, depression and/or poor coping skills can lead to poor care outcomes following SCS. About Bariatric Surgery Evaluations Bariatric surgery has become very effective treatment option for morbidly obese patients struggling with conditions like heart disease, diabetes, some cancers, and breathing problems. Patients with psychological stressors may be at higher risk for complications, including regaining weight post surgery. Psychologists play a major role in assessing whether the patient should undergo the surgery or how to ensure the surgery is successful. Psychologist’s purpose when performing evaluations is not to prevent patients from having a life changing surgery. Studies have shown that a very small number of individuals are found to be poor candidates based on their psychological evaluation results. Visit Psychological Assessment's for an overview of psychological evaluations offered by Help Therapy provider partners. • Dr. Michael McGinty PsyD

Make an Appointment or Referral Specialties Depression, Relational Difficulties, Anxiety, Bipolar, Grief and Loss Whether it be a significant life change, relational difficulties, feeling like we aren’t where we are “supposed to be” in life, or the loss of a loved one, there are many unexpected events that cause us to feel “stuck.” My job as a therapist is help you get “unstuck” by aiding you in better understanding the underlying factors contributing to these difficulties, and the changes you can make to better manage them. This includes exploration of the thoughts, emotions, and interpersonal relationships surrounding them. Part of the reason for my focus on relationships is that I am certified in Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), an approach that focuses on the role of interpersonal issues in psychological distress. The evidence for IPT supports its use for treating concerns related to anxiety and depression, and is of course, helpful in building or repairing relationships.
