Dr. Pates retired from the University of California San Diego after 25 years of service as a professor and therapist for students, staff and faculty. For the past 20 years he has been a senior consultant for the Co-Health organization which serves the Behavioral Health needs of Skilled Nursing Facilities in San Diego County.
He has been an organizational consultant for the San Diego Zoo, United States Army and Navy, IBM, Johnson Controls, the Prudential Life Ins. Co. and the National Association of the Retail Dealers of America.
As a therapist, he specializes in Positive Psychology focusing on the strengths, abilities and personal capabilities of patients suffering from personal stress, distress and depression.
He is an inveterate traveler, having visited all 50 state capitols in the U.S. and returned from his most recent journey to Israel and Egypt.
