Shant A. Barmak, PsyD, EdD is a licensed psychologist with a passion for helping individuals to overcome obstacles in their life. He specializes in providing therapy for adults and families. He is particularly skilled at depression, anxiety, relationship issues, stress management, transitions, helping families manage behavioral concerns, learning differences, and school related concerns. He utilizes an integrative approach applying mindfulness, CBT, and psychodynamic therapy depending on the needs of the client. He is personable with a sense of humor. The strengths he brings as a therapist include being an adept listener and his creativity in how he approaches helping individuals and families reach their goals.
Dr. Barmak has worked extensively with individuals of all ages, adults, and families in a variety of professional settings. As a psychologist his career has included a diverse background including positions in community outpatient clinics, schools, private practice settings, and as psychological and educational consultant. He also has been a clinical supervisor and training director in an education setting. His desire to advance his understanding of how to meet the education needs of diverse populations in education prompted him to complete a doctorate in education leadership at UCSD. Professional affiliations he has maintained include the San Diego Psychological Association, the California Psychological Association, the California Marriage and Family Therapists, and the San Diego Psychoanalytic Center.
